Beautiful Backgrounds

I am excited to show you these beautiful cards today! Or should I say "gojus"! That expression is the creation of Janine Tinklenberg, or as she is better known in the stamping world - Jan Tink. Jan was one of the presenters at the Stampin' Up! opening night party before Convention and she demonstrated different background techniques.

Most of these pictures I took from the display boards and didn't actually SEE Jan's presentation of how to make them, but I think they can easily be figured out. If not, Jan has a wonderful blog where she is always posting lots of great ideas! Plus, she is funny as all get-out! Smiley from millan.net

I love the color combination on this one - Jan has a good eye for color. She used the new Sweet Floral background stamp and the En Francais background stamp on this card. I think the technique she used is emboss resist.
Here is another, softer card using the Sweet Floral stamp and the Netting background stamp. (After seeing these cards, I think that I am going to HAVE to get both of those stamps, don't you think?)
This is one of the things that I DID see Jan demo. She took the Stripes Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (new this year!) and the Netting background stamp and created this very cool, subtle background.
And here is Jan in action!
This card was made with the new Hello, Doily background stamp, embossed with clear powder maybe (?) and then Wisteria Wonder dye ink rubbed on top. (Jan, if you're reading this, how am I doing so far?)

Here is another new embossing folder - Houndstooth with dye ink brayered on it to get the two-tone look.

This next one is such a GREAT stamp for guys. It's Stampin' Up!'s new Tool Shed background stamp. I'll have to run this one by Jan to get all the nitty-gritty details on how she created this one, but I'm pretty sure she at least used our white gel pen for highlights.
I called out to Jan - she was surrounded by lots of adoring stampers who were drinking in her every word - so I could get a good picture of her. And then my camera decided that it wasn't in the mood to focus! Oh, well, at least it's a nice smile, Jan!
I saw Jan a few days later during our lunch break and we sat down together and talked for awhile. I know her not only through Stampin' Up! but her cousin is a good friend of mine. Jan and I have a lot in common. Besides both being stampers, we are both medical transcriptionists and work from home. Smiley from millan.net So we were chatting a bit and just giving ourselves a rest. When an unsuspecting stamper walked by, I flagged her down and asked if she would take a picture of us together. That kind of thing happens a lot at Convention and everyone is always willing to help by taking pictures of other people or groups.
I hope you've enjoyed seeing some of Jan's beautiful cards. If you want to check out her blog, it's called Stamps, Paper, Scissors. I enjoyed getting to know Jan a bit better, and no matter WHAT she says, I was NOT stalking her at Convention! Smiley from millan.net (Inside joke there.)

I'll be back to show you more amazing and GOJUS cards soon! Until then...

  1. Okay - only Janine (as I know her) would wear a t-shirt with her name on the front. And the mic on her face.......heaven help us all in the family now, she probably thinks she's the new Brittany Spears! HA!

  2. Patti, not only does Jan have a shirt with her name on the front, I'm pretty sure she has a DIFFERENT shirt for each day of Convention. (Definitely worn with tongue firmly placed in cheek!) She's a hoot!
