SUStars Blog Hop - December 2011 - Holiday Home Decor

Welcome to the next stop on the SU Stars Blog Hop for December!  You should have come here from Eileen's "Stampin' Fever" Blog.  At the time I'm posting this, I haven't seen her project yet, but I'm sure it's adorable!  You can be sure I'll be checking it out soon!

My project is one that has taken me a few years to complete.  Not because it was difficult, but because I kept procrastinating!  Now that it's done, I'm wondering why I let it go so long!  This is one of Stampin' Up!'s Decor Elements - put on a frame so that I can keep using it year after year!  What do you think?

These are fairly easy to do.  You just follow the directions for applying the Decor Element, but put it on the OUTSIDE of the glass for your frame.  It looked a little plain by itself, so I added some Designer Series Paper to the edges and also some red ribbon strips.  After I put the wreath on the glass I realized that I was going to need something behind it, but I didn't have anything large enough (the glass size is about 18" x 24").  So you know how there is always a "picture" in the frame when you buy it?  I just flipped that around to the white side!  I also thought about using some kind of wrapping paper, but I didn't have anything here that would work, so I just went with what was available!  You know they say that necessity is the mother of invention!  The NOEL isn't part of the original Decor Element - I cut those letters using a Decor Elements Sheet with the Serif Essentials Alphabet Bigz Die and applied them.  I think it added just the right touch.

Here is another framed Decor Elements that I made a few years ago.  The ornaments are no longer available, but the "Jingle All the Way" is still in the Stampin' Up! Idea Book & Catalog.  There are a lot of similarities in how I did this picture and the other one.  However, this one is much smaller so I was able to use some of our Designer Series Paper to go behind the images.  You do want something without too much pattern so it doesn't detract from your main images.  I also added a couple of bows at the top of the ornament "hangers".  They are on the outside of the glass.
I love getting this frame out every year and hanging it on the wall.  I usually leave it up through at least the beginning of February, but I'm thinking about maybe making another one with the Flurry Decor Elements (all snowflakes).  I'll have to post a picture for you if I do!

To continue onto the next stop on the hop, you'll be going to Tory's blog at icanstamp2.blogspot.com.  If you started here, you can continue on the hop from here, or you can go back to the start at http://su-stars.blogspot.com/2011/12/december-blog-hop-holiday-home-decor.html

I hope you've enjoyed the projects you've seen so far and have been inspired to try some things for your own holiday decorating!  I also hope you'll come back to visit me again - I'd love to "see" you!

  2. Oh these are great. I have one of the big reindeer Decor Elements that was a hostess thing a few years ago. I can't get it to transfer from the graph paper to the transfer paper. It just won't come apart. I really am disappointed but will keep working with it. Your job is just so doggone cute. Great job Jayne.
