Birthday Present Card - with instructions!

When I got a card like this in a recent swap, I just squealed with delight! It's so adorable, I knew I had to CASE it right away for another swap I'm in! I made it exactly like the one I received from Gwen Duckworth (thanks, Gwen!) - not just because these were the colors she used, but mostly because I didn't have enough ribbon in any other color except for Pear Pizzazz.Smiley from millan.netWouldn't you love to get a birthday card like this? Or better yet, be the creator and sender of it? And it's easier than you think! This pattern may have been posted out there on the internet someplace, but Gwen's was the first I'd seen.Check out the adorable insert! You could easily include a gift card from the recipient's favorite store inside this. The images used on this card are from the Punch Bunch Sale-a-Bration stamp set and Create a Cupcake stamps from the current Occasions Mini.So because I want you to be able to make one of these yourself, I'm going to give you the basic instructions. You can contact me if you have any specific questions.

BIRTHDAY PRESENT CARD

The card base is 9 x 3-1/4" scored at 2-1/2" and 6-3/4". I used Peach Parfait card stock. Fold on the score lines and use your SNAIL adhesive to tape it and make the card pocket.
You will need to cut your ribbon about 7 to 7-1/2" long.Wrap it around your card base and tape the ends just over the inside top. (The SNAIL is under the ribbon so you can't see it.)This is what it looks like from the bottom - there's no adhesive across the bottom of the card. The ribbon holds the insert in place. The present top is 3 x 4-1/4" of Designer Series Paper (this is Pear Pizzazz), folded in half to create the top. You will need to cut a slit in the fold to get your "bow" through. The size sort of depends on how big you make your bow.
The bow is made with two of our oval punches. Use the smaller oval punch first (#119863 on pg. 202-203 of IB&C) and punch an oval from your card stock. Then punch around that opening with the larger oval punch (#119855 on pg. 202-203 of IB&C).

You will have a small oval shape, and the "loop" for your bow!
When you have punched out five ovals, glue or tape them all together and slip them through the slit you cut in the DSP. You want to be sure to tape them to the DSP, otherwise they will fall out. I also took a piece of Concord Crush card stock and punched with the Scallop Edge Border punch (pg. 200-201 IB&C) and taped that just under the front edge of the DSP.

Here is how it looks from the inside.
Here's what it looks like from the outside.
The insert is a piece of Very Vanilla card stock cut to 3 x 3-1/2". I punched a tab from Concord Crush using the Extra-Large Round Tab punch (pg. 202-203 IB&C) and taped that to the upper right hand corner, then stamped some images from the Create a Cupcake stamp set (pg. 22 in the 2011 Occasions Mini Catalog). Be sure to leave room so you can sign it!Take your present top and base, punch a 1/16" hole in the top left of the present and the bottom left of the top and insert a brad through all layers to hold them together.
Decorate the front of your present as desired. The happy birthday square is from the Punch Bunch Sale-a-bration stamp set layered with dimensionals onto some Concord Crush card stock punched with the Scallop Square Extra-Large punch (pg. 200-201 IB&C). A small Basic Rhinestone on top adds just a little extra bling.

Here are all the finished pieces together! So go ahead and make some birthday present cards for yourself. And when you do, please send me a picture of your creation and how you decorated it! I'd love to see what you make! Until next time...Smiley from millan.net
