Embossed Reinker Spread card

Today's card was made with a technique called "Embossed Reinker Spread".  It was originally demonstrated at a Stampin' Up! regional in Seattle in 2009.  I can give you some basic instructions, but if you just Google the above title, you will find lots of samples and videos on this technique.  It's really pretty simple - but oh so pretty!
 From Millan.Net
So here it is - what do you think?
SUPPLIES:
Stamps:  Secret Garden, Trust God
Card stock:  Shimmer White, Basic Gray, Coastal Cabana
Ink:  Coastal Cabana ink pad, VersaMark; Coastal Cabana and Bermuda Bay re-inkers; Wild Wasabi marker
Ribbon:  Coastal Cabana 3/8" Ruffle Stretch Trim
Other:  Clear Emboss Powder, Aqua Painter, Ovals Collection Framelits, Stripes Embossing Folder, Large Rhinestone Basic Jewels, Rhinestone Basic Jewels, Dimensionals.

To do the technique, you need an open outline image.
1. I stamped the flowers from Secret Garden in VersaMark ink on Shimmer White card stock (this card stock works the best for this technique) and embossed with clear emboss powder.
2. Fill a misting bottle with water, an Aqua Painter with water, and have a paper towel ready.
3.  Choose 2-3 re-inker colors and put a few drops of each separately in a paint tray or other plastic tray.  (You can use the lid from a Cool Whip container.)
4. Spritz the embossed image with water until it is saturated and there are pools of water in the embossed areas.
5.  Moving quickly, dip the Aqua Painter into your darkest color of ink and lightly tap it into a pool of water on the image.  You only have to touch it once - the re-inker will spread across the pool of water.
6. Wipe any excess water from the Aqua Painter on the paper towel and then do your lighter color.
7.  Continue until entire image is colored.
8.  Set aside and let dry well.
9. When dry, cut out the image and use it on your card as desired.
Just be forewarned - this technique will make you gasp out loud with delight!  It's soooo cool!  It makes me look like a "real" painter!

Here is another card I did a few years ago with this same technique.  Everything on this card has retired, but the same technique was used.
I haven't been able to part with this card because I love how it looks!

So why don't you give this technique a try?  I think once you try it, you'll be hooked!

Until next time...

Take-n-Make Projects

Stampin' Up! conventions always include Make-n-Take projects for attendees.  This year, my friends and I decided to Take and Make our projects later instead of at Convention.

From Millan.Net
Friday night a couple of my friends came over so we could do our projects from Convention.  We also all brought our swap cards so we could look through them.  We ordered pizza and had cookies for dessert.  We had such a great time!
From Millan.Net
So here are the finished projects.  Oh, and did I mention that we got all of the stamp sets and supplies to make these projects FREE at Convention?

This project was made with a Tag a Bag Gift Bag and Tag a Bag Accessory Kit (we got this FREE too!).  The stamp set is Tag It, which is this year's Ronald McDonald House stamp set.  This bag was altered to make it a stand up gusseted-type bag.

Here is a card and coordinating envelope made with the Gorgeous Grunge and Hello, Lovely stamp sets.  I think I'm really going to like using these stamp sets this year!

This project also uses both of the same stamp sets as the card above, but it's done with a Tag a Bag Gift Box.  There is a plastic sleeve that slides over the box, so even with the ribbon tied and the other things on top, you can open the box without messing them up.

This is another project that uses the Tag a Bag Gift Bag.  These bags are so versatile!  It also uses Bermuda Bay 1/8" Taffeta Ribbon, Calypso Coral Chevron Ribbon, and Silver Glimmer Paper.
And here is what's inside, stamped with the Hello, Lovely stamp set:
These are our Note Cards & Envelopes, so they are a little smaller than a "regular" sized card.  Wouldn't this make a great gift for someone?

We enjoyed doing our Take-n-Makes this year.  I hope you've enjoyed seeing the projects.  We enjoyed making them and getting them completed!

Until next time...

Convention Roommate Gifts

Be sure to take advantage of the Stampin' Up! special for July.  Buy three designer series papers, and get one FREE!!  You can get four different, all the same, whatever you want.  And today I have some great samples that use lots of different designer series papers.
From Millan.Net
Last week I was MIA because I was attending the Stampin' Up! Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Before that, we were having internet connection issues for a week, so it feels like a l-o-n-g time since I've been here.
From Millan.Net
So one of the things we have done since I attended my first convention is exchange roommate gifts.  Normally that means making 3 gifts, but this year we had 8 in our rooms.  Four of us drove and the other four flew from various parts of the country, but we're all close friends, so we decided to make gifts for everyone in the two rooms.
From Millan.Net
Today I am going to show you what I made to give to the other girls.  Everyone got an "altered folder" with matching ink pen, a large decorated paper clip, and a personalized frame decorated with their initial.

Here's what I made for Diane with the This 'n That Designer Series Papers.
Here is what the inside of the folder looks like.  They could use this to store receipts, notes, or whatever they needed.

Here is Michelle's made with the Gingham Garden DSP:

Here are a few pictures of Judy's gifts - also made with the Gingham Garden DSP.  Notice how different it looks from Michelle's - even though I used the same DSP.

From Millan.Net
This is the one I made for Cindy using the Soho Subway DSP.
From Millan.Net
This is Yvette's - made with the Afternoon Picnic DSP.
The frames were 3"x3" mini magnetic frames I found at a local craft store.  The DSP and the initial were attached directly to the frame.  The frames have a magnetic front that attaches with two little magnets (you can see them at the sides of the frames), so the Basic Rhinestones and the flowers are attached to the front of that.  I finished off the frames by tying some 3/4" Chevron Ribbon around the finished project.
The center of the flower is made by using some of our new Candy Dots along with a Candy Dot Brad Base.  These are so much fun!
From Millan.Net
This is Jenny's finished gift.  I used the Quatrefancy DSP for hers.
 From Millan.Net
Here is Sara's gift, also made with the Quatrefancy DSP.
Another shot of the inside of the folder:
And a close up of her frame:

So there you have it.  The goodies that I gave my roommates.  I had a lot of fun making them and choosing colors that I thought each person would like.  I hope they are pleased with them and like them as much as I do!

Until next time...

Apologies

Guess who's going??  Me, that's who!
From Millan.Net

I'm sorry I haven't been able to post for the past week.  We have been off-line all week due to our modem getting "fried" by a nearby lightning strike.
From Millan.Net
Of course, we had to wait for them to MAIL us a new one...
From Millan.Net
Now I'm getting ready to head to the Stampin' Up! Convention, so I'll be away from my computer again.
From Millan.Net

So I want to apologize for the delays in posting, but I promise I will be back!  If I can figure out a way to post using my iPad while I'm gone, I'll do it.  But I don't think "Blogger" works on an iPad, so I may have some difficulties.
From Millan.Net
I do have a card to share today.  It's made with the Blooming with Kindness stamp set.

I'll be back after Convention with loads of ideas!  In the meantime, you can check my Facebook page - I should definitely have more success posting there!

Until next time...
